Hardstone Psycho

Don Toliver opens his fourth studio album with a brief, whispered invocation, the title track acts as a mission statement. Over 16 tracks, Hardstone Psycho moves between woozy, synth-laden ballads and rattling trap beats, with Toliver's voice floating somewhere between a croon and a bark. The album dropped June 14, 2024, through Cactus Jack and Atlantic Records, arriving just over a year after Love Sick.

Production credits read like a who's who of modern hip-hop: Metro Boomin, Southside, F1lthy, Ojivolta, Cash Cobain, and Wonda all contributed. The result is a cohesive but varied soundscape, Kryptonite hits with skeletal drums, while Purple Rain drifts on hazy guitar loops. Guest spots are sparse but effective: Travis Scott appears on Ice Age, Charlie Wilson and Cash Cobain join for Attitude, and SoFaygo closes out the standard edition on Insides.

Four singles preceded the album: Bandit in February, Deep in the Water in March, Tore Up in April, and Attitude in May. The album debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 with 95,500 album-equivalent units, and hit number 1 on both the Top Rap Albums and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. A deluxe edition followed on October 16, 2024, adding six tracks including Lovely and alternate versions.[edit]
