Han Seung-soo's career has been marked by a series of notable firsts and high-level appointments. He was the first recipient of the Columbia Law School's Distinguished International Service Award in 1997. His election as President of the UN General Assembly in 2001 placed him at the helm of the world's largest deliberative body during a pivotal year. The UN's Nobel Peace Prize that year, accepted on behalf of the organization, added a rare distinction to his tenure. His later work on green growth helped establish the Global Green Growth Institute, an international organization dedicated to sustainable development. These accomplishments reflect a career dedicated to public service and global cooperation.
