Han Lue

Han Lue first surfaced in Justin Lin's independent film Better Luck Tomorrow (2002), a crime drama about overachieving Asian-American teenagers. Lin liked the character so much that when he signed on to direct The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006), he brought Han along as an Easter egg. The character was never meant to be a franchise fixture, but audiences responded to his calm, cool presence. Lin later expanded Han's role by writing him into prequels set before Tokyo Drift.

In the short film Los Bandoleros (2009), Han meets Dominic Toretto in the Dominican Republic. The two bond over racing and pull off a heist, cementing a friendship that would make Han a core member of Dom's crew.
