Hal Jordan

Harold Jordan grew up in Coast City, California, the son of pilot Martin Jordan and Jessica Jordan. When Hal was a boy, he watched his father die in a plane crash, a moment that forged his fearless resolve. After earning his wings in the U.S. Air Force, he became a test pilot for Ferris Aircraft. His life changed forever when he was summoned to the desert crash site of an alien named Abin Sur, a dying Green Lantern. Abin Sur's power ring, programmed to seek a bearer without fear, chose Hal. With the ring and a lantern-shaped battery, Hal became Earth's first Green Lantern, sworn to protect Sector 2814. [edit]

Hal Jordan is defined by his immense willpower and near-total lack of fear. He is confident to the point of arrogance, but his courage is genuine, he runs toward danger when others flee. Hal has a strong moral compass, though he can be impulsive and reckless, sometimes acting before thinking. He values loyalty and friendship, and despite his bravado, he carries deep guilt over his father's death and his own past mistakes. Hal's journey is one of rise, fall, and redemption. In his early years, he established himself as one of the Corps' greatest Lanterns, battling Sinestro and the Manhunters. The turning point came when the villain Mongul destroyed Coast City, killing millions. Grief-stricken, Hal tried to use his ring to resurrect the city, but the Guardians forbade it. In fury, he attacked Oa, drained the Central Power Battery, and became the villain Parallax. He later died redeeming himself by reigniting the Sun. After a period as the Spectre, the spirit of vengeance, Hal was resurrected and returned to the Green Lantern Corps, reclaiming his heroic legacy. Hal Jordan is widely considered the definitive Green Lantern, especially after Geoff Johns' run restored him to prominence. The character's dramatic turn to villainy in the 1990s sparked intense debate among fans, but his eventual redemption solidified his legacy. The 2011 film starring Ryan Reynolds was a commercial disappointment, but animated portrayals, particularly by Nathan Fillion and Christopher Meloni, have been well received.
