Gustavo Alfaro has built a reputation as one of South America's most thoughtful and tactically astute coaches. His greatest achievement is leading Paraguay to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, their first appearance since 2010, after a qualifying campaign where they finished level on points with Brazil and beat both Brazil and Argentina. He previously guided Ecuador to the 2022 World Cup, where his team impressed with a win over hosts Qatar and a draw with the Netherlands. His 2012 Clausura title with Arsenal de Sarandí remains a standout club achievement, as he transformed a modest club into champions.

AwardsAlfaro won the Argentine Primera División Clausura in 2012 with Arsenal de Sarandí, his first league title. He also won the Copa Argentina in 2013 and the Supercopa Argentina in 2012 with the same club. These remain his only major managerial trophies.
