Gurney Halleck was born in the 10130s AG on an unknown world. Early in life, he was captured and enslaved by House Harkonnen, where he suffered brutal treatment at the hands of Glossu 'Beast' Rabban, who gave him the distinctive scar that runs across his face. He eventually escaped and entered the service of House Atreides, rising through merit and ferocity to become Warmaster, the senior military commander and trainer for Duke Leto Atreides.
