Overview
Kenichi Sonoda crafted Gunsmith Cats as a high-octane blend of action and mechanical detail, serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon from late 1990 through April 1997. The story unfolds in Chicago, where expert gunsmith Irene Rally Vincent runs her shop alongside Minnie May Hopkins, a demolitions expert with a past as a call girl. These two women balance their daily work fixing firearms with dangerous moonlighting gigs hunting down fugitives. Sonoda packed the pages with intricate weapon diagrams and fast-paced chases that defined the series' unique appeal. The original run spanned over six years before concluding, though fans later received a sequel titled Gunsmith Cats Burst, which ran from July 2004 to September 2008. An animated adaptation arrived in 1995 as a three-episode OVA produced by OLM, featuring an original plot about an arms trafficking ring and a relentless assassin.
