The genesis of Tha Dogg Pound began in the early 1990s within the vibrant Long Beach, California, hip-hop scene. Daz Dillinger, a cousin of Snoop Dogg, was already a recognized local talent, actively producing and rapping. Kurupt, originally from Philadelphia but raised in Los Angeles, had been honing his lyrical skills as part of a group called Tha Relativez. Their paths converged through Snoop Dogg, who introduced both artists to Dr. Dre as he was meticulously building the roster for Death Row Records.
