About
Pristin no longer performs together. The group disbanded on May 24, 2019, and the ten members have scattered into acting, music, beauty, and other fields. For the two years they were active, Pristin was known for a bright, self-written brand of pop that drew heavily on the members' own songwriting and composing. The lineup of Nayoung, Roa, Yuha, Eunwoo, Rena, Kyulkyung, Yehana, Sungyeon, Xiyeon, and Kyla put out four EPs and one sub-unit project, all of which landed in the top five of the Gaon Album Chart. Their music videos together passed 100 million views. Fans, called PRISTINE, still trade clips and lightstick photos from the group's short run. The name comes from the word pristine, and the official fan color, Rose Quartz, matched the soft pink glow of their lightsticks. What lingers most is the sense of what might have been: a group with strong pre-debut buzz, real songwriting chops, and a loyal fandom that never got a proper farewell tour.
Formation Story
The story starts in 2016, when Pledis Entertainment began assembling a new girl group from its trainee pool under the working name Pledis Girlz. The agency had spent years building a roster of young performers, and the plan was to debut them as a single unit. Then Mnet's survival show Produce 101 changed everything. Several Pledis trainees entered the competition, and two of them, Lim Na-young and Kang Kyung-won, finished first and second. That result earned both a spot in the temporary project group I.O.I, which kept them busy through much of 2016. While Nayoung and Kyulkyung promoted with I.O.I, the remaining Pledis Girlz members held pre-debut concerts and released the song "We" in June 2016. The full ten-member lineup, Nayoung, Roa, Yuha, Eunwoo, Rena, Kyulkyung, Yehana, Sungyeon, Xiyeon, and Kyla, finally came together once the I.O.I members returned. Pristin made their official debut on March 21, 2017, with the EP Hi! Pristin and the single "Wee Woo." The debut was well received, and the group's self-composed material gave them a credibility that many rookies lacked. Two more EPs, Prima Materia in September 2017 and Schxxl Out in November 2017, followed in quick succession. A sub-unit, Pristin V, arrived in May 2018 with the single album Like a V. Then activity slowed. Late 2018 brought an indefinite hiatus, and on May 24, 2019, Pledis announced the group's disbandment after only three of the ten members renewed their contracts.

Musical Style
Pristin's sound moved through several phases in a short time. The debut EP Hi! Pristin led with "Wee Woo," a bright dance-pop track built on a playful hook and a mix of electronic textures. It set a youthful, energetic tone. By the second EP, Prima Materia, the group had shifted toward something darker and more powerful. The single "Sober" pushed stronger rap verses and heavier choreography to the front. The third EP, Schxxl Out, went further with "Come Back Home," a bass-heavy track with aggressive delivery. The sub-unit Pristin V leaned into hip-hop and R&B on "Get It," a confident, slinky single that showed a more mature side. The final EP, HAPPY ENDING, tried to swing back to a brighter, more melodic pop sound with "Shy Shy Shy." Across all of it, the members wrote and composed much of their own material, which was unusual for a rookie group and gave their catalog a personal stamp.

Cultural Impact
Pristin's main mark on K-pop comes from the way they bridged the survival show boom and the permanent group model. Having the top two finishers of a single Produce 101 season end up in the same debuting group was a first, and it drew attention from fans and industry watchers alike. The group also stood out for their songwriting involvement, which challenged the assumption that idol groups simply performed what producers handed them. Their disbandment became a frequently cited example of how quickly momentum can stall when a mid-sized agency struggles to manage a ten-member group. In the years since, former member Jung Eun-woo has spoken publicly about the management problems behind the split, and her later career in the beauty industry has become part of a wider conversation about what happens to idols after the lights go out. Pristin did not reshape the industry, but their rise and fall mapped its pressures clearly.
Fandom Culture
Pristin's fandom took the name PRISTINE, and the official fan color was Rose Quartz, a soft pink. The lightstick was designed as a rose quartz gem on a silver base, and fans filled venues with pink during the group's short touring window. PRISTINE was known for its loyalty during the long hiatus, keeping social media campaigns alive and trading photos and clips when official activity dried up. Fan meetings in South Korea, the US, and Japan gave the group its main chances to connect with supporters, since no headlining tours ever happened. The fandom's persistence after disbandment, with members' solo projects and reunion hopes still circulating online, says a lot about how tightly the group's brief run held its audience.
Awards Won (4)
Pristin did not win any major awards from the Mnet Asian Music Awards, Melon Music Awards, Golden Disc Awards, or Seoul Music Awards. The group received nominations for Best New Artist at the 2017 Melon Music Awards and Best New Female Artist at the 2017 MAMA Awards, but did not take home either prize. Their commercial performance and fanbase did not translate into trophy wins during their two-year run.

Trivia
The name Pristin comes from the word pristine, meaning pure and unspoiled. The group's pre-debut name, Pledis Girlz, was used for concerts and a 2016 digital single called "We." Nayoung and Kyulkyung finished first and second on Produce 101, the only time two eventual members of the same permanent group took the top two spots in one season. Pristin V, the five-member sub-unit, debuted with "Get It" on May 28, 2018. Kyla, born January 1, 1999, was the group's maknae. In 2026, former member Jung Eun-woo spoke publicly about the disbandment and her later work as a director at a Seoul plastic surgery clinic.
