Pistol Annies are an active American country supergroup composed of Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe, and Angaleena Presley. Known for their razor-sharp lyrics and airtight three-part harmonies, the trio has released four studio albums since 2011. Their music blends traditional country storytelling with a modern, unflinching perspective on women's lives, marriage, divorce, heartache, and resilience, delivered with wit and grit.

The idea for Pistol Annies was born in 2009 during a songwriting retreat between Miranda Lambert and Ashley Monroe. The two friends, already established in Nashville, wanted to form an all-female trio, a group that could write and sing about real life with humor and honesty. Monroe immediately thought of Angaleena Presley, a fellow songwriter she admired. Presley was at home in Kentucky, "rocking a baby to bed, broke," when she got a late-night call. "The next thing you know, two o'clock in the morning they're calling me," Presley recalled. "And Ashley's like, 'get up, get up, you have to send me and Miranda your record.'" After hearing Presley's music, Lambert was convinced she was the missing piece.

The trio made their public debut on April 4, 2011, performing "Hell on Heels" on the CBS special Academy of Country Music's Girls' Night Out: Superstar Women of Country. Lambert introduced them on stage: "Since it's Girls' Night Out, I've got a new band called Pistol Annies, and I want to bring out the members. This is our very first debut ever." The single hit their website on June 12, and the full album Hell on Heels dropped on August 23, 2011. They appeared as background vocalists on Blake Shelton's hit "Boys 'Round Here," and each member's solo work, particularly Lambert's, has been shaped by the collaborative ethos of the trio.
