In 2017, in London, England, producer David Pugh and director Richard Eyre conceived of a unique musical project. Their vision was to create a one-night-only concert event, a supergroup born from the United Kingdom's vibrant West End theatre scene. This wasn't to be a traditional girl group, but a celebration of female talent, showcasing the powerhouse vocals of three established leading ladies. Rather than holding open auditions, Pugh and Eyre individually recruited each member based on their acclaimed starring roles in major London musicals. American singer and actress Amber Riley, fresh from her acclaimed West End debut as Effie White in Dreamgirls (2016), was approached. British soul singer Beverley Knight was recruited following her commanding performances in The Bodyguard and Memphis.
