About
Kis-My-Ft2 (often abbreviated as Kisumai) remains a dominant force in the Japanese music industry as a six-member unit managed by Starto Entertainment. Known primarily for their dynamic stage presence that integrates roller-skating into choreography, the group continues to release chart-topping material and sell out massive venues across Japan. Their current era focuses on mature storytelling through tracks like HEARTLOUD and My Affection, blending orchestral elements with contemporary pop sounds.
The collective maintains a loyal fanbase that follows every release and tour stop. While Hiromitsu Kitayama departed in August 2023 to pursue solo acting, the remaining six members have successfully transitioned into a cohesive unit without losing momentum. Their sound is characterized by polished production, intricate vocal harmonies, and dance routines that demand precision and stamina.
Formation Story
The roots of the group trace back to July 26, 2005, when seven young boys were selected as trainees within the Johnny's Jr. system in Tokyo. The original lineup included Kitayama, Senga, Miyata, Yokoo, Fujigaya, Tamamori, and Nikaidō. The name Kis-My-Ft2 was constructed from the initials of their surnames: Ki-tayama, Sen-ga, Mi-yata, Yo-koo, Fu-jigaya, Ta-mamori, and Ni-kaidō. The suffix "Ft2" also serves as a tribute to tap dancer Gregory Hines, referencing an anecdote where he kissed Sammy Davis Jr.'s shoe, symbolizing the group's commitment to hard work and humility.
For nearly six years, the members trained together, participating in various sub-unit activities and junior concerts. Busaiku formed in 2009 as a side project featuring three members, allowing them to develop individual styles before the main group's launch. The official debut occurred unexpectedly on February 12, 2011, during the "Johnny's Jr. Concert Tour 2011." Fans still refer to this moment as the "brown envelope" incident because the announcement was delivered via a brown envelope handed out during the show. Commercially, they launched on August 10, 2011, with the single Everybody Go, which quickly climbed the Oricon charts and established their energetic persona.

Musical Style
Their discography spans several distinct phases of artistic growth. The debut era between 2011 and 2013 featured upbeat, high-tempo J-pop tracks designed to match their roller-skating choreography. Songs like Super Music Maker relied on catchy hooks and complex footwork. By 2014, the group began exploring deeper sonic territories with albums like Happiness and Kis-My-Journey, incorporating R&B influences and rock elements to showcase their expanding vocal ranges.
Recent releases such as HEARTLOUD and My Affection reflect a more emotive and cinematic approach. These works often feature orchestral arrangements and lyrical themes centered on love and personal reflection. The production style has shifted from purely dance-oriented bangers to songs that balance performance energy with emotional depth, allowing members to highlight their acting and vocal nuances.

Their fashion sense has also influenced youth trends in Japan, with members frequently appearing in stylish outfits that blend streetwear with high-fashion aesthetics.
Beyond music, the group has engaged in significant social initiatives. Members have served as ambassadors for tourism campaigns and participated in disaster relief efforts. Toshiya Miyata's recent work as a PR ambassador for anime projects like Super Psychic Policeman Chojo highlights the group's expanding influence into the entertainment sector beyond traditional idol culture.
