GOT7 debuted on January 16, 2014, under JYP Entertainment with the EP Got It? and the single Girls Girls Girls. The group quickly stood out for their athletic, martial-arts-inspired choreography and a lineup that included members from South Korea, the United States, Hong Kong, and Thailand. This international composition helped them build a diverse global fanbase from the start.

Over the next seven years, GOT7 released a steady stream of Korean and Japanese albums, evolving from a hip-hop-heavy sound to more mature R&B and pop. Their Flight Log series and the hit Hard Carry brought them mainstream recognition in Korea, while albums like Eyes On You and Call My Name showed their artistic growth. Members increasingly took part in songwriting and production, with Jay B and Jinyoung leading the charge.

In January 2021, all seven members left JYP Entertainment after their contracts expired, a rare move for a K-pop group. They reunited in 2022 under Warner Music Korea to release the self-titled EP Got7, led by the breezy single NANANA. Jackson was discovered at a global audition in Hong Kong, where his background in fencing caught attention. Mark auditioned in Los Angeles, BamBam in Thailand, and Youngjae and Yugyeom were recruited through JYP's trainee system.
