    About

Górnik Zabrze emerged on December 14, 1948, when workers at the local coal mine in Silesia founded the club. This industrial origin remains central to their identity as they compete in the Ekstraklasa today. The team plays its home matches at the Ernest Pohl Stadium, a venue with a capacity of roughly 20,000 spectators.

The club holds the record for the second-most Polish Championship titles with 14 league crowns, matching the tally of Ruch Chorzów. Two distinct periods defined their success: the 1960s and the 1980s. During these decades, the squad built a reputation for tactical discipline and consistent performance. They have also secured the Polish Cup five times, with their most recent victory occurring in 2001.

    History

Founded by miners from the 'Zabrze' coal mine, the club has maintained a working-class connection throughout its existence. Their first major trophy came in the late 1950s, but the true era of dominance arrived in the 1960s. During this time, the team won six league titles and established itself as a powerhouse in Central Europe. The 1980s saw another surge in success with four additional championships and two Polish Cups.

Recent years have shown a return to competitive form. In October 2026, Górnik defeated Jagiellonia Białystok 3-1 away from home to reclaim the top spot in the league table. The squad faced AS Monaco in August 2026 during European qualifiers, losing 4-1 but demonstrating resilience against top-tier opposition. Transfer activity in August 2026 included a €1 million bid for South African striker Emile Witbooi and a loan signing of Portuguese midfielder Paulo Bernardo from Celtic.
