Gon Freecss

Gon Freecss was born on May 5 and raised on Whale Island by his aunt Mito, who told him his parents were dead. At age 12, he met the Hunter Kite, who revealed that Gon's father Ging Freecss was alive and a legendary Hunter. Inspired, Gon decided to take the Hunter Exam to find his father. He left his island home, carrying only a fishing rod given by Kite, and began his journey.[edit]

Gon is cheerful, honest, and fiercely determined. He has a strong moral compass but can be reckless, especially when his friends are threatened. His empathy allows him to understand even enemies, but his single-minded rage in the Chimera Ant arc reveals a darker, more selfish side. In the Hunter Exam, Gon passes by relying on his physical talent and intuition. He meets Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio, forming an unbreakable bond. After learning Nen in Heavens Arena, he trains under Biscuit in Greed Island, mastering Jajanken. The Chimera Ant arc is his crucible: when Kite is killed by Pitou, Gon makes a Nen pact that transforms him into an adult-like state, overwhelming Pitou but sacrificing his own Nen and nearly his life. He is saved by Killua and later meets Ging, who acknowledges him before departing. Gon loses his Nen but chooses to live peacefully on Whale Island, implied in the Dark Continent arc.[edit]

Gon is one of the most iconic shonen protagonists. Early reviews criticized his simplicity, but his development in the Chimera Ant arc earned acclaim for its realism.
