The film cuts between three main threads: Kong exploring the Hollow Earth and confronting the Skar King's forces, Godzilla powering up across the globe, and the human team venturing into the Hollow Earth to uncover the truth behind Jia's visions.

The humans discover that the Skar King once attempted to conquer the surface but was imprisoned by Godzilla's ancient ancestors. Now free, he poses an imminent threat. Kong, after a brutal first encounter where he is defeated and captured, must ally with Godzilla, his former rival. The two titans, initially reluctant and hostile, realize they must work together to stop the Skar King and his army before they breach the surface.
