About This Album
GNX is Kendrick Lamar's sixth studio album, released November 22, 2024, without any prior announcement. Named after the Buick GNX muscle car, it's his first full-length project after leaving Top Dawg Entertainment and Aftermath Entertainment, and his first major release following the 2024 feud with Drake. The 12-track album runs 44 minutes and was produced primarily by Lamar, Jack Antonoff, and Sounwave, with contributions from DJ Dahi, J.LBS, and M-Tech.
The sound draws heavily from West Coast hip-hop, jerk rap, and G-funk, blending soul samples, live instrumentation, and modern trap beats. Guest features include SZA on two tracks, plus Dody6, Lefty Gunplay, Wallie the Sensei, Siete7x, Roddy Ricch, AzChike, Hitta J3, YoungThreat, and Peysoh. Lamar's rapid-fire delivery and intricate wordplay are front and center, with critics praising the album's cohesive regional aesthetic and focused energy.
GNX debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 320,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, including 145,000 pure sales. It spent four non-consecutive weeks atop the chart and reached number one in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, and the Netherlands. The singles "Squabble Up" and "Luther" both hit the top 10 on the Hot 100, with "Squabble Up" reaching number one. By June 2025, the album was certified 2x Platinum by the RIAA and had sold over 3 million equivalent units worldwide.
