GKIDS

GKIDS, Inc. is an American film distributor founded in 2008 by Eric Beckman, who previously co-founded the New York International Children’s Film Festival. The company focuses on distributing acclaimed international animated films and television series to North American audiences, alongside independent American animated productions. Its name, GKIDS, is an acronym for "Guerrilla Kids International Distribution Syndicate." Under the leadership of founder and CEO Eric Beckman and president Dave Jesteadt, GKIDS has carved out a distinct niche. They are particularly known for their stewardship of Studio Ghibli's film catalog in North America, making classics like Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro accessible. The company has also brought Oscar-nominated works such as The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea, and Flee to wider attention. Beyond distribution, GKIDS produces the annual ANIMATION IS FILM festival in Los Angeles, further cementing its role in the animation landscape.

In October 2024, a significant development was announced: GKIDS would be acquired by the Japanese entertainment giant Toho. This acquisition, finalized in 2025, made GKIDS a subsidiary of Toho International, with both Beckman and Jesteadt continuing in their leadership roles.
