About
Girls² is a seven-member Japanese idol group under LDH and Rhythm Zone, active since 2019. They are best known for their bright, dance-oriented J-pop sound and their roots in the Girls × Heroine television franchise. The group's music has evolved from cheerful theme songs to more polished pop with hip-hop and electronic touches. Members also serve as regulars on the children's variety show Oha Suta, where the sub-unit Oha Girl from Girls² performs. As of 2025, the group continues to release music and perform, maintaining a loyal fanbase called the GL² family.
Formation Story
Girls² was formed by LDH from graduates of its dance school, EXPG Studios, who had been cast in director Takashi Miike's Girls × Heroine series, a live-action superhero franchise aimed at young girls. The group's origins trace back to three pre-debut sub-units: miracle² (formed in 2017), magical² (2018), and mirage² (2019). These units performed songs for the series and built a following among children and families.
On March 29, 2019, the nine members were formally assembled into Girls². They held a debut showcase in Osaka attended by about 2,000 people. Ran Ishii joined the group on July 6, 2019, shortly after the debut. Their first single, "Daijyoubu," was released on June 26, 2019, as the opening theme for Secret × Heroine Phantomirage!. The group's early activities were tightly tied to the Girls × Heroine franchise, with members appearing in the shows and releasing soundtrack singles.
