Beregovoy's double Hero of the Soviet Union title is a testament to his exceptional service, first in war and then in space. He was one of the few to receive this honor twice, and the only cosmonaut to hold it before his spaceflight. His leadership at the cosmonaut training center also shaped the careers of many who followed.
