George W. Bush's most celebrated achievement is the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), launched in 2003. This initiative has been credited with saving over 25 million lives and is widely regarded as one of the most successful global health programs in history. He is also the only U.S. president to hold an MBA and the first to complete a marathon. His post-presidency painting career has produced three published collections and raised funds for veterans' causes.

AwardsBush has received several honors for his public service. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama in 2011. In 2014, he received the Profile in Courage Award from the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation for his PEPFAR initiative. He was awarded the Liberty Medal in 2017 by the National Constitution Center. He also received the George H.W. Bush Award for Public Service in 2018 and holds honorary degrees from Yale and Harvard universities.
