Gemini Rights

Released on July 15, 2022, Gemini Rights marked Steve Lacy's major-label debut with RCA Records, following up his 2019 independent release, Apollo XXI. This 12-track album dives headfirst into a rich sonic tapestry, weaving together strands of indie rock, alternative R&B, funk, jazz, and even hints of psychedelia. Lacy explores themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery with a raw honesty that resonates throughout the record. The project features guest spots from Fousheé and Matt Martians, adding further texture to its already diverse soundscape.

Even before its release, Gemini Rights generated significant buzz, propelled by singles like "Mercury," "Bad Habit," and "Sunshine." The album was met with critical acclaim, with "Bad Habit" becoming a massive hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Commercially, the album performed exceptionally well, reaching the top ten of the Billboard 200 and claiming the number one spot on the Top Rock Albums chart. Its success was further cemented when it earned the Grammy Award for Best Progressive R&B Album at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.[edit]
