    Overview

Z1 Battle Royale drops players into a chaotic, post-apocalyptic landscape where survival depends on speed and strategy. Originally emerging from the split of H1Z1 in 2016, this title evolved through several rebrands before settling under its current name. Daybreak Game Company released the game for Windows in early access for three years, finally launching it as a free-to-play experience in February 2018. The PlayStation 4 version followed later that summer.

When NantG Mobile took over development in March 2018, they attempted to revert the game to an earlier state with their Season 3 update. This partnership ended abruptly by April 2019 when NantG dropped the project due to development challenges. Daybreak Game Company regained full control immediately after and implemented a massive update in March 2019 to address performance issues and stabilize the game across the board.

    Gameplay

The game emphasizes arcade-style action rather than simulation realism. Players parachute into massive maps to scavenge weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and supplies while engaging in run-and-gun combat. The playable area shrinks over time, forcing encounters between survivors who must adapt quickly to survive. A core component involves drivable vehicles used to traverse the large map and escape the shrinking safe zone.

Combat focuses on high mobility and quick reflexes with a variety of firearms and melee weapons found throughout the environment. The Auto Royale mode offers a different variation of the battle royale experience for those seeking a faster pace.
