Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

"The exhibits are back and they are ready for a fight."

    Overview

Larry Daley trades his night shift at the American Museum of Natural History for a frantic rescue mission across Washington D.C. after his friends Jedediah and Octavius get mistakenly shipped to the Smithsonian Institution. Players step into Larry's shoes to navigate the sprawling complex, battling hostile historical figures who have come alive thanks to the magical Egyptian tablet that followed them there.

This action-adventure title expands the scope beyond the single-museum setting of its predecessor by letting users explore diverse wings like the National Air and Space Museum. The gameplay shifts from pure defense to active infiltration as you switch between characters with unique abilities such as flight or super strength to solve environmental puzzles and defeat waves of enemies.

    Gameplay

The core loop relies on third-person combat where players use melee attacks and special moves to take down animated exhibits. You can swap between Larry Daley and unlockable historical icons like Sacagawea, Attila the Hun, and Teddy Roosevelt to exploit their specific strengths against different obstacles. The Nintendo DS version breaks from the 3D format with a top-down isometric view that uses the touch screen for interactions, while the Wii edition incorporates motion controls for swinging weapons.

    Story

After a successful stint pitching infomercials, Larry finds himself in trouble when the magical tablet travels with his friends to the Smithsonian archives. The artifact reactivates the new location's exhibits, turning them against him before he can reach them. He must race through the museum's various halls to retrieve the tablet and stop the chaos before it spreads across the city.
