    Overview

EA Sports launched FIFA 23 on September 30, 2022, marking the end of a nearly three-decade partnership with FIFA. This title arrived as the thirtieth entry in the long-running series, bringing HyperMotion2 technology to both current and last-generation consoles. Players could experience the sport on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Stadia. The game featured Kylian Mbappé and Sam Kerr as cover athletes for the standard and legacy editions respectively, highlighting the growing prominence of women's football within the franchise.

The core engine powered over 19,000 players across more than 700 teams and 100 stadiums using motion capture data from real professional matches. For the first time in the series, men's and women's clubs coexisted in the same modes like Ultimate Team and Career Mode. A major update on March 15, 2023, added the full National Women's Soccer League roster, including all 12 clubs and their players.

Cross-play functionality debuted with this release, allowing players on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC to compete together while keeping PS4 and Xbox One users in a separate pool. The game also reintroduced Juventus under its real name after years of appearing as Piemonte Calcio and featured a crossover event with the TV show Ted Lasso that brought AFC Richmond into Ultimate Team.

    Gameplay

HyperMotion2 technology drove the animation fidelity by utilizing motion capture data from actual professional matches. This system applied to both current and last-generation hardware to maintain consistent movement quality. The roster expanded to include over 19,000 players representing more than 700 teams across 100 stadiums and 30 leagues.

Cross-play enabled competition between PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC users while maintaining separate pools for PS4 and Xbox One. The game introduced full integration for women's football where national teams and clubs appeared alongside male counterparts in shared modes. A specific update in March 2023 added the National Women's Soccer League with all 12 clubs and their rosters fully licensed.
