    Overview

Ajay Ghale lands in Kyrat expecting a quiet moment to scatter his mother's ashes. Instead, he finds Pagan Min has already scattered them across the mountain peaks of this fictional Himalayan nation. The tyrant who calls himself King of Kyrat vanished before Ajay could even step off the plane, leaving behind a war zone where the Royal Army fights against the fractured Golden Path rebels. Players must navigate this volatile landscape while choosing whether to support one faction, the other, or stay neutral as they uncover the truth about their family.

Ubisoft Montreal led development on this title after scrapping plans for a direct sequel to Far Cry 3. The team drew heavy inspiration from the Nepalese Civil War to create a setting that felt grounded yet surreal. Troy Baker brought Pagan Min to life with a performance influenced by cult films like Ichi the Killer. While Red Storm Entertainment built the competitive multiplayer modes, Ubisoft Toronto crafted the dreamlike Shangri-La sequences that offer players hidden lore and abilities outside the main story.

The game launched globally on November 18, 2014, across five platforms including PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. Critics praised the expansive open world and Cliff Martinez's soundtrack which blended traditional Nepalese instruments with electronic beats. By March 2020, sales figures had crossed the 10 million unit mark, cementing its status as a major commercial hit for Ubisoft despite some reviews noting the narrative lacked the emotional depth of previous entries.

    Gameplay

Players explore the vast vertical terrain of Kyrat using horses, elephants, and paragliders to traverse snowy mountains and dense jungles. The combat system encourages tactical approaches where you can drop bombs from helicopters or use mounted turrets to suppress enemy forces. A robust co-op mode allows a second player to join the campaign at any time without disrupting the host's progress. Hunters track wildlife for resources while insurgents patrol roads filled with ambushes. The game features a branching narrative structure where side quests often require role-playing decisions rather than simple objective completion.

    Story

Ajay Ghale arrives in Kyrat only to discover his mother's ashes have been scattered by Pagan Min. He joins the Golden Path rebellion led by Sabal and Amita, two leaders with opposing visions for the country's future. As the conflict escalates, Ajay faces moral dilemmas that force him to choose between violence and diplomacy. The story includes surreal dream sequences set in Shangri-La where Ajay confronts spiritual manifestations of his heritage. These segments provide insight into the kingdom's history while granting special abilities to aid the real-world conflict.
