    Overview

Players assume the role of an Overseer tasked with constructing and maintaining a Vault-Tec shelter in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Released on June 14, 2015, for iOS devices, this free-to-play simulation game quickly expanded to Android, Windows, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 over the following three years. The project also appeared on Tesla vehicles, allowing owners to manage their vaults while waiting for their cars to charge.

The core loop requires balancing power, water, and food production across various rooms while training Dwellers with randomized stats like Strength and Perception. Players send these residents into the Wasteland to scavenge for loot or fight creatures such as Radroaches and Raiders. Random events like fires or raider attacks demand immediate attention to prevent casualties and maintain morale within the underground facility.

    Gameplay

The game centers on resource management where players must construct specific rooms to generate Power, Water, and Food. Each Dweller possesses seven randomized attributes that dictate their efficiency in assigned tasks. Users assign these characters to rooms to maximize output or dispatch them on quests to the surface for unique items and experience points.

Survival depends on managing random crises including fire outbreaks, radroach infestations, and hostile raids. The title features no linear narrative ending; instead, the objective is continuous expansion until reaching the population cap of 200 dwellers. While microtransactions offer premium currency for faster construction or instant training, the core progression relies on strategic layout planning and dweller stat optimization.

    Story

No traditional plot drives the experience as the narrative emerges from player decisions and random event generation. The primary conflict arises from environmental hazards and external threats rather than scripted character arcs. Players guide their community through endless cycles of resource scarcity and defense without a definitive conclusion.
