    Overview

ARC Raiders drops you onto a ruined Earth where humanity has fled underground and hostile machines called the ARC rule the surface. You play as a Raider, one of the daring few who venture up from the refuge to scavenge resources, complete contracts, and fight both ARC units and other players. Each raid is a tense session: you spawn at a random map location alongside other Raiders, explore for loot, engage in third-person combat against varied robot enemies, and must extract before the timer runs out. Death means losing everything collected in that raid, so every decision carries weight.

The game is built around a risk-reward loop. You can extract early via evac elevators or metro stations, calling in a pickup and holding off enemies while it arrives. Or you can hunt for special Raider hatches that require keys and offer silent, instant extraction. Extraction zones have individual timers that close permanently when they hit zero, adding pressure to move fast. Back in the refuge, successfully extracted loot feeds into crafting better weapons, armor, and tools, and upgrading workbenches. A survival skill tree lets you unlock perks like in-raid crafting, deepening the strategic layer.

Combat emphasizes mobility and precision. You can crouch, dodge, roll, and shoulder-swap, and staying mobile is key to avoiding heavy ARC attacks. Enemy robots have targetable weak points and armor segments: turrets change color as they take damage, flying enemies have armored rotors you can shoot off to disable them. The game launched as a PvE-first experience with PvP layered in; PvP rewards are generally lower than high-level PvE activities, and the community values tactical cooperation. Developed by Embark Studios, a Stockholm-based studio founded by former DICE and EA veterans, and published by Nexon, ARC Raiders released on October 30, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows.

    Gameplay

Each raid begins with you equipping your character from your base inventory: weapons, armor, consumables, and gadgets. You drop into a large outdoor map at a random location alongside other human players. The core loop involves exploring, scavenging for materials and gear, fighting ARC robots, and completing dynamic tasks like contracts or side missions. A strict time limit governs the map; when time expires, extraction opportunities change or close entirely.

Extraction is the ultimate goal. You can call an evac elevator or metro station, which triggers a loud arrival sequence and forces you to hold your position until it arrives. Alternatively, Raider hatches offer a safer, instant extraction but require rare keys. Each extraction point has its own countdown timer; when it hits zero, that point becomes unavailable for the rest of the match. If you die before extracting, you lose all loot from that raid.

Combat is third-person with a focus on mobility: crouch, dodge, roll, and shoulder-swap are core moves. ARC enemies feature destructible weak points and armor segments. Turrets shift color from blue to yellow to red as they take damage, and you can find angles to destroy them with heavy ammo. Flying robots have armored rotors; shooting specific rotors can disable or drop them. PvP is possible but less rewarding than high-end PvE, and the game was originally designed as PvE-first with PvP added later.

Progression revolves around crafting. Loot you extract safely is used to craft better weapons, armor, and tools, and to upgrade workbenches and stations in the refuge. A survival skill tree includes perks like in-raid crafting. Veteran players emphasize map awareness, extraction timing, and resource management as keys to success.

    Story

Humanity has been driven underground by the ARC, a mysterious and hostile machine force that patrols the surface. You are a Raider, one of the few who regularly leave the safety of the underground refuge to scavenge the devastated surface for valuable resources and technology. The surface zones are lethal, with roaming ARC machines and environmental dangers.

The narrative unfolds through environmental storytelling, faction interactions, mission briefs, and world-building elements within the refuge. Your actions as a Raider support the survival and potential resurgence of the underground society. The story is not told through cutscenes but emerges from the tension of each raid and the scraps of lore you find.
