    Overview

Riley Park moves into a dusty attic filled with old toys and a stack of VHS tapes, only to find that the cheerful children's show Amanda the Adventurer holds dark secrets. The player must decipher hidden messages within manipulated episodes to uncover a conspiracy involving brainwashing and missing children. This psychological horror puzzle game transforms nostalgic 1980s aesthetics into a source of genuine dread.

MANGLEDmaw Games initially developed the title as a prototype for a game jam in April 2022. Publisher DreadXP acquired the project later that year and expanded it into a full commercial release. The game launched on PC via Steam in April 2023 before porting to major consoles. Its unique blend of analog horror tropes and interactive storytelling quickly gained traction on streaming platforms.

    Gameplay

The experience functions as an interactive escape room where players alternate between watching video segments and manipulating physical objects in the attic. Tapes from Amanda the Adventurer often contain visual glitches or specific spoken words that serve as keys to solving logic puzzles. Players use a flashlight and inventory items to interact with toy boxes, dolls, and books, correlating information from the show with the environment.

Tension drives the design rather than combat mechanics. The game relies on atmospheric unease, jump scares, and fourth-wall breaks where the titular character directly addresses the viewer. Success requires careful observation of the low-fidelity animation style and audio cues embedded in the broadcast quality footage.

    Story

Riley Park investigates the disappearance of other children while exploring the sinister underbelly of a seemingly innocent television program. As the player watches manipulated episodes, they discover that the show's creators are using the broadcast to indoctrinate young viewers. Glitchy interruptions reveal Amanda breaking the fourth wall to manipulate Riley into performing dangerous tasks.

The narrative unfolds through environmental storytelling within the cluttered attic room. Hidden clues point toward a cult-like organization controlling the production. The story culminates in a confrontation where the boundary between the game world and reality dissolves, leaving the player to question what is real.
