    About

Founded in 1873, Gainsborough Trinity stands as a cornerstone of Lincolnshire football history. The club achieved a rare feat by joining the Football League Second Division in 1893, representing one of the smallest communities ever to compete at that professional level. They remained in the league until resigning in 1912 due to financial strain, leaving behind a legacy as pioneers who proved rural towns could host top-tier competition.

Today, the team plays in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, currently sponsored as The Pitching In Northern Premier League. Matches unfold at The Northolme, a ground that has served the club for over 140 years. Recent efforts in 2026 have focused on deepening community ties through initiatives like allowing fans to sponsor specific pieces of the stadium's history.

Under manager Russ Wilcox, the squad has shown resilience in recent campaigns. Highlights include a dominant 3-0 away victory against FC United of Manchester in August 2026 and a crucial 2-1 win over Guiseley earlier that season. Captain Bobby Johnson remains a central figure, extending his contract into 2027 after making seventeen appearances.

    History

The club was established in 1873 and quickly became a founding member of the Midland League in 1889. Their rise continued with a Midland League title win in the 1890–91 season and an FA Cup Third Round appearance during the 1892–93 campaign. This period marked their entry into the Football League Second Division in 1893, where they competed until 1912. Financial pressures forced their resignation from the professional ranks, but the club survived to rejoin the non-league pyramid.

Over the last century, the team has navigated various divisions within the English non-league system. A notable milestone occurred in the 2026–27 season when they hosted Bury FC, marking the first time these two former Football League sides met on the pitch. The club continues to operate as a community-focused entity, maintaining traditions like "The 150 Club" draw held every third Thursday of the month.
