    Overview

KENT, the manga artist behind Kamen Rider spinoffs and the Gigantis design for Kaiju No. 8, launched this series in Kodansha's Monthly Young Magazine on June 20, 2023. The story opens with a devastating kaiju attack on the fishing village of Sukuba, where the protagonist Miyako survives and witnesses the death of the monstrous Gaea-Tima. Ten years later, the sea around the village has turned black, paradoxically bringing abundant seafood and turning Sukuba into a tourist destination.

Miyako gets recruited into the Kaiju Biological Research Agency, codenamed FUNE, where she discovers she can summon Gaea-Tima by tossing a marble-like ball into water. She deploys the creature to fight other kaiju like the insectoid Hettorga, while researcher Tatsukuni Matsushima helps her navigate bureaucratic conflicts within FUNE. The series questions whether humanity can respond to violence with anything other than more violence, and examines how societies exploit disaster memories for political gain.

The manga blends action, drama, and science fiction with meticulous kaiju ecology. KENT designs monsters with believable biology, life cycles, and social behaviors, framing battles as desperate wildlife management. The human side presents morally gray commanders, scientists experimenting with forbidden genetics, and soldiers questioning their role. Volume 2 introduces a new Gaea-Tima form that pays homage to Aqua Mothra from the 1990s Mothra trilogy.
