    Overview

Gachiakuta is set in a dystopian world split between the wealthy, pristine Sphere and the impoverished, polluted Slum below. The story follows Rudo, a boy from the Slum who is falsely accused of murdering his foster father and thrown into the Abyss, a massive garbage pit that serves as the world's dumping ground. Miraculously surviving the fall, Rudo discovers he has the power to animate and weaponize discarded objects, a rare ability called Giver. He is rescued by a group of outcasts known as the Cleaners, who use similar powers to fight monstrous creatures born from the trash called Beasts. Rudo joins the Cleaners not out of altruism but with a single vengeful goal: to climb back to the Sphere and exact revenge on those who framed him.

The series explores themes of social stratification, environmental decay, and the value of the discarded. Rudo's journey is one of survival and self-discovery as he navigates a morally grey world where the line between victim and villain blurs. The Cleaners, each with their own tragic past, become a surrogate family, challenging Rudo's obsession with revenge. The narrative constantly questions what justice means in a society built on inequality and waste.

Written and illustrated by Kei Urana, a former assistant to Hiro Mashima (Fairy Tail), Gachiakuta is Urana's first major serialized work. The manga began in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in February 2022 and has been collected into 18 tankōbon volumes as of February 2026. An anime adaptation by Bones Film aired from July to December 2025, with a second season announced. The series won the 50th Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2026, cementing its status as a standout dark fantasy.
