Gabriela Szabo's achievements are remarkable for their range and longevity. She is one of only a few Romanian athletes to win Olympic medals in two different distances, and her European record in the 3000 meters stood for 17 years. Her 1999 season, where she won world indoor and outdoor titles, is considered one of the greatest in distance running history.
