About
Franco Alejandro Colapinto arrived on the scene from Pilar, Buenos Aires, with a background that started on kart tracks at just nine years old. By 2018, he had graduated to junior formulae and quickly proved his speed by winning the 2019 F4 Spanish Championship with Drivex. His momentum continued through 2020 as he secured third-place finishes in both the Formula Renault Eurocup and the Toyota Racing Series. The young driver then shifted gears into sportscar racing for 2021, competing in the LMP2 class across the FIA World Endurance Championship, European Le Mans Series, and Asian Le Mans Series while driving for G-Drive. He also contested the Formula Regional European championship with MP, finishing sixth overall before moving up to the FIA Formula 3 series in 2022. Colapinto climbed the ladder steadily, taking fourth place in Formula 3 during the 2023 season before joining the Williams Driver Academy. That path led to his historic Formula One debut at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix. He stepped in to replace Logan Sargeant for the remainder of the year when Carlos Sainz Jr. was set to join the team. This move made him the first Argentine driver to race in Formula One since Gastón Mazzacane in 2001. He scored his maiden points finish at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and repeated the feat in the United States. After serving as a reserve driver for Alpine in 2025, he earned a promotion after six Grands Prix to replace Jack Doohan. He achieved a season-best result of eleventh place at the Dutch Grand Prix and remains contracted with the team through at least the end of the 2027 season.
