Fox News Channel, commonly known as Fox News, launched on October 7, 1996, as a 24-hour cable news network created by Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch recruited Roger Ailes from MSNBC to serve as the network's founding CEO and chief architect. The network debuted with 17 million household subscribers and initial programming included short 30-minute blocks featuring shows like The Schneider Report, The O'Reilly Factor, and The Crier Report. Fox News was the first network to introduce a continuous breaking news ticker at the bottom of the screen during the 9/11 attacks, a format innovation that became industry standard.

Headquartered in New York City, Fox News is owned by Fox Corporation, a publicly traded company controlled by the Murdoch family through a dual-class share structure. After Ailes' resignation in July 2016 following numerous sexual harassment allegations, Rupert Murdoch served as interim CEO. Suzanne Scott, who had risen through the ranks, was named CEO of Fox News Media in 2018, becoming the first woman to hold the position. The network has been the most-watched cable news channel in the United States for more than 21 consecutive years and remains the number one network in all of cable.

Fox News Media operates multiple platforms: the flagship Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, Fox News Digital, Fox News Audio, Fox News Books, the direct-to-consumer streaming service FOX Nation, FOX News International, and the free ad-supported television service FOX Weather. The network reaches nearly 200 million people each month across all platforms.
