Forky

Forky was created by Bonnie Anderson during her kindergarten orientation. Overwhelmed by her first day, Bonnie reached into a trash can and assembled a toy from discarded art supplies: a plastic spork, a red pipe cleaner, googly eyes, a popsicle stick, and modeling clay. When she named him Forky, he sprang to life, becoming a sentient toy. His first moments were spent in panic, screaming "I'm trash!" as he tried to throw himself into a garbage bin. Unlike other toys in the franchise, Forky was not manufactured in a factory but handmade, giving him a unique origin tied directly to Bonnie's love and imagination.[edit]

Forky is defined by his existential crisis and his earnest, anxious nature. He genuinely believes he is trash and belongs in the garbage, leading to frequent panic and attempts to discard himself. Despite this, he is innocent, curious, and deeply loyal once he understands his purpose. His questions often cut to the heart of philosophical issues, reflecting a childlike wonder mixed with confusion. In Toy Story 4, Forky's arc centers on learning what it means to be a toy. Initially obsessed with returning to the trash, he is taken under the wing of Woody, who teaches him about the joy of being loved by a child. Through a series of misadventures, including a near-drowning and a trip to an antique store, Forky gradually accepts his role. The climax comes when he declares, "I'm a toy!" and chooses to stay with Bonnie. In the film's end, Woody leaves Bonnie with Bo Peep, and Forky becomes Bonnie's new favorite toy. The spin-off series Forky Asks a Question (2019–2020) continues his development as he explores concepts like love, time, and friendship through his innocent lens.
