Five years after their last Korean studio album, Girls' Generation returned with Forever 1 on August 5, 2022. Produced primarily by Lee Soo-man and long-time collaborator Kenzie, the album avoids sounding dated while honoring a fifteen-year legacy. Physical copies became available three days later on August 8 via Dreamus Company distribution. While digital sales peaked at number one on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart, physical units sold over 100,000 copies within the first week of release.

Critical reception was generally positive for successfully balancing nostalgia with contemporary production. Some fans expressed mixed feelings on social media platforms, with discussions noting that promotional cycles were cut short due to individual member schedules.
