Kehlani released "Folded" on June 11, 2025, as the lead single from her self-titled fifth album via Atlantic Records. The song runs 4 minutes and 58 seconds, built on a mid-tempo groove with subtle guitar melodies and layered harmonies. Produced by Jproof, B HAM, and J.LBS with co-production from Kehlani, the track fuses contemporary R&B with soul and pop elements, creating an intimate but polished sound.

The single became Kehlani's first top-ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 6. It also reached number 8 in the UK, number 7 in Canada, number 9 in Australia, and number 5 in New Zealand. The RIAA certified it Platinum, with Gold certifications in the UK and Canada. On the Billboard Global 200, it climbed to number 8.

Critics responded strongly. Pitchfork called it "a masterclass in modern R&B, blending vulnerability with undeniable groove." Rolling Stone labeled it "a career-defining single." The song won the Grammy for Best R&B Song at the 2026 ceremony and was nominated for Record of the Year and Best R&B Performance. It also took home the BET Award for Video of the Year and the Soul Train Music Award for Song of the Year in 2025.

The music video, co-directed by Kehlani and cinematographer Adam Newport-Berra, features her in a dimly lit bedroom and a rain-soaked street. It has accumulated over 50 million views on YouTube. On TikTok, the song appeared in more than 2 million videos, becoming an anthem for self-reflection. Notable covers include an acoustic version by H.E.R. and a jazz rendition by Robert Glasper.[edit]
