Flood's legacy is defined by his ability to shape the sound of entire genres. His work on The Downward Spiral and How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb represents some of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed albums in alternative rock history. He is universally recognized as a master of atmosphere and texture, influencing a generation of producers who followed. His Grammy win for Album of the Year stands as a rare distinction for a producer who has never sought the spotlight.

AwardsFlood has received significant recognition for his production work, most notably winning a Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2007 for U2's How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. His influence is widely acknowledged within the music industry, though specific award counts beyond the Grammy win are less frequently tabulated in general summaries. He is often cited alongside Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois as a key figure in shaping the "big" sound of alternative rock in the 1990s.
