    Overview

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is an action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix. Set for release in early 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S, it concludes the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, which reimagines the 1997 classic. The game picks up immediately after Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (2024), following Cloud Strife and the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE as they journey to the Northern Crater. Their mission: stop the Shinra Electric Power Company, fend off the planet-defending Weapons, and confront Sephiroth before his Meteor spell brings destruction.

Gameplay blends real-time combat with strategic elements, letting players switch between party members to exploit enemy weaknesses. Director Naoki Hamaguchi has stated that the core gameplay is almost complete. A notable new feature is that, for the first time in the Remake Saga, the planet will be fully explorable, offering a more open-world experience. The story was completed by 2025, with active development starting in November 2024. The title was revealed at Summer Game Fest 2026, confirming the trilogy's end. Fans can expect a dramatic conclusion to one of gaming's most ambitious remakes.

    Gameplay

Final Fantasy VII Revelation retains the real-time combat system from previous Remake entries, where players control a party of characters and can switch between them on the fly. Each character has unique abilities and weapons, and the ATB (Active Time Battle) gauge fills during combat, allowing for special moves and spells. The game introduces a fully explorable world map, a first for the Remake trilogy, letting players traverse the planet freely. Side quests, mini-games, and hidden secrets are scattered across the environment. The synergy system from Rebirth returns, enabling team-up attacks between party members. Director Naoki Hamaguchi has confirmed that the combat system is polished and nearly final.

    Story

The story of Final Fantasy VII Revelation begins right after the events of Rebirth. Cloud Strife and AVALANCHE learn that Sephiroth plans to summon Meteor, a destructive spell that will wound the planet and allow him to absorb its Lifestream. The group travels to the Northern Crater, the source of Sephiroth's power. Along the way, they encounter the Weapons, giant monsters awakened by the planet to defend itself. Shinra also pursues its own agenda, seeking to control the situation. The narrative explores themes of identity, memory, and redemption, as Cloud confronts his past and the truth about his existence. The game concludes the Remake trilogy, offering a definitive ending that reimagines the original game's climax while adding new twists.
