Fidelity Investments is a privately held American financial services giant headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 1946 by Edward C. Johnson II, the company has grown into one of the world's largest asset managers, with Abigail Johnson serving as CEO since 2014. Fidelity dominates brokerage, retirement services, and asset management, competing with firms like Vanguard, Charles Schwab, and BlackRock.

The firm's roots go back to 1930 with the Fidelity Fund, but the modern company took shape in 1946 when Johnson took over management. Under his son, Ned Johnson III, who became president in 1972, Fidelity pioneered discount brokerage, the legendary Magellan Fund managed by Peter Lynch, and 401(k) plan administration.
