    About

FC Bayern Munich is more than just a football club; it's an institution that has come to define German football. Based in Munich, the club's men's team competes in the Bundesliga, Germany's top flight, and has set a standard of excellence that few can match. With a record 35 national championships, including an incredible streak of eleven straight titles from 2013 to 2023, and 21 DFB-Pokal wins, Bayern's domestic dominance is unmatched. On the European stage, they've lifted the Champions League six times, a German record, and are one of only a handful of clubs to have won every major continental trophy.

The story begins in 1900, when eleven players led by Franz John founded the club. Despite winning their first national title in 1932, Bayern was surprisingly left out of the Bundesliga's inaugural season in 1963. The club found its footing in the mid-1960s, but the 1970s brought true greatness. Under the leadership of Franz Beckenbauer, Bayern won three consecutive European Cups from 1974 to 1976. That era set the tone for decades of success, culminating in a sixth Champions League victory in 2020, part of a treble that made them only the second club to win the sextuple: league, cup, Champions League, domestic supercup, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup.

Bayern's influence extends beyond trophies. They've had players in eleven consecutive World Cup finals from 1986 to 2022, and their players have claimed five Ballon d'Or awards. The club's global footprint is massive, with over 432,000 members as of November 2025, making it the largest sports club in the world by membership. Home matches are played at the iconic Allianz Arena, and the club's red and white colors are recognized everywhere. Financially, Bayern is a powerhouse, generating a record €978.3 million in revenue in the 2024-25 season.

    History

The club's early years were spent at the Grünwalder Stadion, a modest ground that hosted Bayern's rise through the regional leagues. The move to the Munich Olympic Stadium in 1972 coincided with the golden era under Franz Beckenbauer, where the team claimed three straight European Cups. That stadium witnessed the likes of Gerd Müller, Sepp Maier, and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, and it remained home until 2005.

Since then, the Allianz Arena has been the fortress. Its illuminated exterior shifts color depending on the home side, a spectacle that has become a symbol of modern Munich. The arena hosted matches during the 2006 World Cup and the 2012 Champions League final, though Bayern lost that final on penalties to Chelsea in their own stadium.

The 2013 treble under Jupp Heynckes was a defining moment, followed by Hansi Flick's sextuple in 2020. Those triumphs were built on a blend of homegrown talent and savvy signings, a philosophy that continues under current boss Vincent Kompany, who took charge in 2025. The club's academy has produced legends like Philipp Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger, while the scouting network has brought in stars like Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane.
