Fate/strange Fake

Ryōgo Narita crafted a twisted entry in the expansive Fate universe with Fate/strange Fake, a light novel series that first appeared as an April Fool's prank on his website back in 2008. Originally titled Fake/States Night, this prologue introduced readers to a grim version of the Holy Grail War set in Snowfield, Colorado. The story gained serious traction when Type-Moon Ace magazine published it as a special feature in 2009 with illustrations by Morii Shizuki. The final book reached 368 pages and dropped on January 10, 2015, solidifying its place within the franchise's complex lore.

Unlike previous conflicts centered in Fuyuki City, this war unfolds under a corrupted vessel built from a damaged fragment of the original Grail. An unknown organization orchestrated the event to mimic the Third Holy Grail War but introduced irregular summonings like a True Caster class alongside standard Servants. Mages from around the globe converge on the snowy American town, drawn by the promise of a wish-granting artifact that operates under darker, more chaotic rules than their predecessors.

The narrative explores the duality of heroism through unreliable narrators and morally gray protagonists who manipulate political landscapes rather than just fighting battles. Yen Press licensed the English translation, allowing international fans to access the mature tone and intricate plotting that defines Narita's work. Critics frequently cite the series for balancing multiple storylines while introducing a wide array of characters without losing focus on the central mystery of the Grail's corruption. [edit]
