Faora

On Krypton, Faora was a brilliant scientist whose life took a dark turn after a traumatic incident. She developed a pathological hatred for men, leading her to commit a series of murders. For these crimes, she was sentenced to the Phantom Zone, where she spent years in isolation. Her rage and contempt for humanity only grew, and when General Zod and his followers were also imprisoned, she found kindred spirits. Faora became Zod's most trusted lieutenant and lover, sharing his vision of Kryptonian supremacy.[edit]

Faora is cold, calculating, and utterly ruthless. She takes pleasure in combat and domination, showing no mercy to her enemies. Unlike Zod, who is driven by ideology, Faora is more pragmatic and direct. She respects strength and despises weakness, viewing Superman's compassion as a flaw. Her loyalty to Zod is absolute, but she is not blindly obedient; she often acts on her own initiative to achieve their goals.[edit]

Faora first escaped the Phantom Zone alongside Zod and Non in the late 1970s, battling Superman on multiple occasions. After being defeated and returned to the Zone, she reappeared in the post-Crisis continuity with a revised origin. In the 2007 storyline Action Comics Annual #10, Faora was released from the Zone and became part of the New Krypton society, where she continued to oppose Superman. Her most prominent modern arc is in the DCEU, where she serves as Zod's second-in-command during the invasion of Earth. She nearly kills Superman but is ultimately trapped in the Phantom Zone by the combined efforts of Superman and the military. Faora has become a standout female villain in the Superman mythos, particularly after Antje Traue's performance in Man of Steel. Critics praised Traue's intensity and the character's combat prowess, noting that she subverted typical female villain tropes by being purely menacing and powerful. Her scenes in Man of Steel are often cited as highlights of the film, contributing to discussions about gender representation in superhero movies.
