Family Guy

Family Guy is an American animated sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane that premiered on Fox on January 31, 1999, following a Super Bowl broadcast. The series originated from two short films MacFarlane made in the 1990s featuring characters named Larry and Steve, which later evolved into the Griffin family. The show is set in the fictional town of Quahog, Rhode Island, and follows the dysfunctional Griffin family: bumbling patriarch Peter, his patient wife Lois, awkward daughter Meg, dimwitted son Chris, diabolical baby Stewie, and sarcastic dog Brian. MacFarlane voices several main characters, including Peter, Stewie, and Brian.

The first season consisted of seven episodes, but the show was canceled in 2002 due to low ratings. Strong DVD sales and a fan campaign led to its revival in 2005, and it has aired continuously since then. Production companies include Fuzzy Door Productions, 20th Century Fox Television, and 20th Television Animation. The brand has expanded to include a spin-off, The Cleveland Show (2009-2013), and an upcoming series titled Stewie scheduled for 2027-2028. Family Guy shares a universe with MacFarlane's American Dad! and has crossed over with other Fox shows such as The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, and live-action series like House and Malcolm in the Middle.

The show is known for its irreverent humor, pop culture parodies, and distinctive cutaway gags. It has received both praise and criticism for its willingness to tackle sensitive subjects. In 2025, during the Family Guy 25th Anniversary Celebration at PaleyFest, voice actor Patrick Warburton shared that his family expressed disdain for the show despite it providing a steady income. The show's quality has been debated, with some critics noting a decline in writing by season 8. Nonetheless, it remains a staple of Fox's Animation Domination lineup and holds a popularity rank of 454 overall and 37 by type, with a popularity score of 38.19 as of July 2026. [edit]
