Fall 2: Deadpoint

Two years after the B-67 TV tower disaster, Jax is barely holding it together. The death of her sister Shiloh has left her hollow, afraid of heights, and adrift in a world that expects her to move on. When Luce, Shiloh's old climbing partner, shows up with a plan to scatter Shiloh's ashes from a remote Thai mountain, Jax knows she should say no. But something in Luce's voice, a hidden urgency, makes her agree.

The Spierig Brothers, known for their work on Predestination and Daybreakers, take over directing duties from Scott Mann, who stays on as producer and co-writer alongside Jonathan Frank. Harriet Slater and Arsema Thomas inherit the lead roles, with the sequel set in the same continuity as the 2022 original. Principal photography kicked off in June 2024, with the production moving from the Mojave Desert to the jungles of Thailand.

The film's title comes from a climbing term: a deadpoint is the moment you let go of one hold to grab another, trusting momentum over security. It's a fitting metaphor for a story about people who have to release everything they're clinging to, just to survive another day. Jax is a ghost. She walks through her days in a fog of grief, haunted by the memory of her sister Shiloh falling from the tower. Climbing used to be her escape, now it's the thing she fears most. When Luce arrives at her door, Jax is wary. Luce was Shiloh's friend, but they shared something Jax never understood, a bond forged on vertical rock faces that left Jax on the outside.

Luce has a plan. She wants to climb Mount Kwan in Thailand, a treacherous limestone formation with a legendary plank walk across its face. The goal is to scatter Shiloh's ashes from the summit, to give her the send-off she deserves. Jax resists at first, but Luce is persuasive, and the promise of closure is too tempting to ignore. They fly to Thailand, leaving behind the gray skies of home for the oppressive humidity of the jungle.

The climb starts deceptively easy. The lower pitches are manageable, and Jax finds her rhythm, the muscle memory of years of climbing kicking in. Luce is a steady partner, always a step ahead, calling out beta and checking their gear. They talk about Shiloh, sharing stories that fill the silence between moves. But Jax can't shake the feeling that Luce is holding something back.

Halfway up the mountain, the world falls apart. A rockslide tears through the face, severing their rope and sending their packs tumbling into the void. The sound is deafening, a roar of stone and dust that leaves them clinging to a narrow ledge, hearts pounding. When the dust settles, they realize the truth: they're stranded, thousands of feet above the ground with no rope, no water, and no way to call for help. The sun beats down, and the ledge offers no shade.

Days pass. Dehydration sets in, and with it comes hallucinations. Jax sees Shiloh standing on the rock face, her hair whipping in the wind, her voice calling out warnings. Luce grows distant, her optimism cracking under the strain. Old tensions surface, and Jax begins to question why Luce was so determined to make this climb. Secrets that Shiloh took to her grave start to emerge, and the two women must decide if they can trust each other enough to find a way down.[edit]
