Fake It Flowers

Beabadoobee traded her bedroom lo-fi setup for a wall of distortion on Fake It Flowers, the debut studio album arriving via Dirty Hit on October 16, 2020. This record marks a sharp pivot from her earlier work, swapping quiet intimacy for loud guitars that channel '90s slacker rock and grunge. The 13-track project blends indie rock with shoegaze textures and pop-punk energy, creating a sound that feels both nostalgic and fresh.

Singles like "Care" and "Sorry" led the charge, showcasing her growth as a songwriter who can handle heavy riffs without losing her melodic sensibility. Critics at Pitchfork awarded the record an 8.0 rating for balancing nostalgia with freshness, while The Guardian described it as shiny, vulnerable retro pop. Rolling Stone noted she perfectly channels the '90s era without sounding derivative, highlighting her ability to maintain melodic hooks over driving riffs. [edit]
