F.C. Alverca

Futebol Clube de Alverca, commonly known as F.C. Alverca, is a professional football club based in Alverca do Ribatejo, a town in the municipality of Vila Franca de Xira in the Lisbon metropolitan area of Portugal. Founded in 1939, the club has deep local roots and a proud history of developing talent. After years of bouncing between divisions, Alverca earned promotion to the Liga Portugal for the 2025–26 season, marking their return to the top flight for the first time since 2005.

Alverca's journey through Portuguese football has been a rollercoaster. The club spent much of its early decades in the regional leagues, but the 1990s brought a golden era. Under the presidency of José Manuel de Mello, Alverca became a feeder club for Sporting CP, and the partnership helped them climb to the Primeira Liga for the first time in 1998. They stayed up for four seasons, even reaching the final of the Taça de Portugal in 2000, where they lost to Porto.

Relegation in 2002 led to a nomadic period, with the club dropping to the third tier by 2005. Financial troubles and administrative issues saw them fall further, but the club never lost its identity. A rebuild began in the 2010s, and steady progress through the Campeonato de Portugal and Liga 3 culminated in promotion to Liga Portugal 2 in 2022. The 2024–25 season was the breakthrough: a strong campaign, led by coach Sergio Ferreira, secured automatic promotion back to the top flight.

The return to the Primeira Liga has been challenging but promising. Alverca finished 11th in their first season back, a solid foundation to build on.
