Overview
Turkish television has a long tradition of turning betrayal into prime-time gold, and Ezel ranks among the most effective examples. The series, created by Pınar Bulut and Kerem Deren, first aired on Show TV in September 2009 before moving to atv, and it ran for 71 episodes across two seasons, wrapping in June 2011. Kenan İmirzalıoğlu leads as Ömer, a soldier just back from service whose life is shattered when the people closest to him frame him for a crime and send him to prison. Ten years later, presumed dead, he returns under a new identity: Ezel, a polished high-stakes gambler with a long memory and a longer plan. What makes the show work is the company Ömer keeps. Cansu Dere plays Eyşan, the fiancée at the center of the setup; Yiğit Özşener is Cengiz, his closest friend turned rival; Barış Falay brings a sharp edge as Ali, and Sarp Akkaya rounds out the circle as Tevfik. Tuncel Kurtiz, as the older fixer Ramiz, gives the series a gravelly moral center that keeps the revenge mechanics from floating away into pure style. Uluç Bayraktar directs with a steady hand, and the two-hour episode format lets each installment breathe like a small film. The tone sits somewhere between crime thriller and slow-burn melodrama, with gambling tables, Istanbul backrooms, and a love story that refuses to stay buried. It is not a subtle show, but it is a committed one, and the performances sell the hurt underneath the plotting. An 8.3 rating on IMDb from a modest sample reflects a loyal following rather than a mass phenomenon, but for viewers who like their revenge served with patience and a good suit, Ezel delivers.
