Sabrina Carpenter kicked off the era of her sixth studio album, Short n' Sweet, with the lead single "Espresso", released on April 11, 2024, through Island Records. Co-written by Carpenter, Amy Allen, Steph Jones, and producer Julian Bunetta, the track blends synth-pop, disco, and funk into an infectious, self-assured anthem. Its lyrics radiate confidence, with Carpenter playfully asserting her irresistible charm over a buoyant groove.

The song quickly became a global phenomenon, peaking at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and giving Carpenter her first top-five hit on the chart. It spent an astonishing 65 weeks on the Hot 100, a testament to its staying power. Internationally, "Espresso" topped the charts in over 20 countries, including Australia, Belgium, Ireland, Norway, and the United Kingdom, and reached the top ten in at least 20 more. It also became Carpenter's first number-one on the Billboard Global 200. The song earned platinum or higher certifications in 14 countries, including a Diamond certification in France.

Carpenter performed the track at major events, including Coachella 2024, Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend, the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, and the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. It served as the encore on her Short n' Sweet Tour (2024–2025). At the 2024 VMAs, "Espresso" won Song of the Year, Carpenter's first VMA win.
